Pericarditis

Question:
I had pericarditis (inflammation of the pericardium). It was a partly bacterial, partly viral infection. I've been in hospital for two weeks...they had to do a punction to remove the fluid around my heart. My heart isn't touched by the infection and is in good condition. I've been home from work for a month a may not do heavy work for 3 months.
I had to take antibiotics and aspirin for a month. How long can I not dive after having this disease? Can you help me on information considdering this subject?

Answer:
Since the heart and its function are not compromised, there should not be any significant contraindication to resume recreational diving when you will have clearance to resume a normal physical activity by your cardiologist. The time interval of three months that has been suggested before you undertake any strenuous exercise can be also considered a reasonable interval before resuming diving.
