Mitral valve prolapse

Question:
A guest of ours is intending to make a diving course with us whilst on holiday. She has informed me that during her 2nd pregnancy, she was diagnosed with MVP ( Mitral Valve Prolapse ). She tells me that she has had no complications, but would like to know if it may be a problem for diving?

Answer:
Uncomplicate, asymptomatic MVP is not, normally, a contraindication to diving. That is: is the lady has no symptoms ( such as palpitations, for example) and her cardiac function is normal, the condition should not be a problem.
