EUF Lavanchy Award Presented to Alessandro Marroni

Düsseldorf, 21st January 2023 - Mark Caney, the President of the EUF (European Underwater Federation), awarded Professor Alessandro Marroni with the 2023 EUF Lavanchy Award at the BOOT 2023 show.

“Sandro” Marroni is President & CEO, and Chief Medical Officer, DAN Europe Foundation. He is the author of over 250 scientific papers and publications, and is particularly active in underwater medicine research.

He is the Director of the International School of Diving Safety and Medicine at the Malta Institute of Tourism Studies, where the Bachelor of Science Degree in Diving Safety Management is delivered – the first of its kind.

Recently, he was one of the team of hyperbaric medicine experts that created the new diver medical questionnaire that is used by RSTC and CMAS members across Europe.

The award is presented annually by the European Underwater Federation, to honour the vision of diving pioneer Jack Lavanchy, a former honorary vice president of the EUF, who was personally instrumental in the initial development and growth of European recreational diving. During his lifetime, Jack worked tirelessly to try to and persuade the members of the diving community to work together for the good of the sport and the benefit of divers everywhere.

The Lavanchy Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant and sustained contribution towards the responsible development of the European diving community.
