Appendectomy

Question:
Please can give me some advice? On 24 January I had an appendectomy following a diagnosis of acute appendicitis. The doctors in the Phuket Bangkok Hospital have told me that I cannot dive for about two months. I am not sure whether this is too long or too short and would very much like your advice on when I can dive next.

Answer:
Uncomplicated appendectomy, like any other uncomplicated soft tissue lesion, does not normally require very prolonged intervals before diving can be safely resumed.
The key is to allow for sufficient time for a normal healing of the surgical wound and for return to normal function of the body.
In the case of a normal appendectomy, this interval does not generally exceed four weeks, frequently even less, depending on how invasive was the surgical procedure.
